The State of Alabama Legislature passed a new scrap law which becomes effective August 1, 2012.

The new law requires purchasers of scrap metal to take a picture of the person selling and a picture of the material being purchased.  These pictures must be kept for one year.  We must record the sellers valid drivers license number, current tag number, and current name and address.

The new law requires the above information to be sent to local law enforcement by 9:00 PM on the day of purchase.

The new law limits some of the scrap that can be purchased. Burnt copper wire is not allowed to be purchased. Copper-Aluminum coils can only be purchased from a HVAC company with a valid business license.  Communicatons equipment and wiring and railroad scrap are prohibited except from sellers of this equipment.

The law is complex and extensive. Please review the pdf copy we have attached to our website.
